Manyu: Osing village gets new traditional ruler after three years

Professor Ako Edward Oben has been installed as new chief of the Osing village, situated in the Eyumujock subdivision, Manyu division of the South West region yesterday December 10th.

The village had been without a traditional ruler for over 3 years due to the socio-political crisis which has been rocking the two English-speaking regions of Cameroon. Their last ruler was General Tataw who died on July 24th 2019.

The coronation ceremony was attended by the Manyu Senior Divisional Officer (S.D.O.), Viang Mekala. Speaking during the ceremony, the SDO declared he is optimistic that the presence of a traditional ruler will help bring development and normalcy back to the Osing village:
“We think that with the presence of the new chief in his palace, we are now going to work in collaboration with the population for the development of the village. The chief will work with the administrators to transmit the needs of the population”.

While the population outlined some of the challenges they have been facing, the authorities hope they fully collaborate with them so schools can effectively resume and normalcy can return to the village.

“Some schools are still in place. If the head teachers can accept to start schools, the council is willing to provide didactic materials for them to begin,” Chief Ayamba Ita, Mayor of Eyumujock stated.

Prof. Ako Edward Oben doubles as Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Council at the University of Buea. The coronation ceremony which began with a mass service for peace ended with traditional displays among which was the Egbe traditional dance.

Inhabitants of the village hope that the new chief with a very high academic profile and the rich background he has, will help bring development to the community.
