Far North: These youths whose contributions are only known during key election time

President Paul Biya does not need to campaign. In fact, in 2018, he made less efforts to campaign in person, but won the election with 71%. The majority of the voters came from the three northern regions.
In the 2018 Cameroonian presidential election, the voter turnout was approximately 54%. Out of about 7.2 million registered voters, around 3.9 million cast ballots. This indicates a moderate level of participation compared to previous elections.
Voter apathy among Christians is alarming, whereas the northern regions are plagued by insecurity, famine, hunger, and the effects of climate change, came out en masse to vote for President Paul Biya.
In 2018, the Adamawa region voted 79.77% for Paul Biya, the Far North voted 89%, andthe North voted 81.62%. This shows how popular Paul Biya is, in the northern regions.
The Elites of Far North, North, and Adamawa, who also double as members of the governments, key political figures, Directors, Parliamentarians, are the ones who battle for Paul Biya so that they will continue to enjoy the privileges they have. That is why no matter how the Southern regions criticise the New Deal Government, the North will always make him win.
The recent march past by youths from six divisions in the far North, in support of President Paul Biya, is a clear example of how Elites use the youths to attain political gains.
The big question is what has Paul Biya given to these youths in response to their paid loyalty? We recently saw how damaged the road linking Garoua and Ngaoundere, North and Adamawa, respectively. The Interior Minister, Paul Atanga Nji, said it was a terrible situation- for the past Seven years since Paul Biya won the elections, he had not been bale to rehabilutate that road. But since the polls are coming again, he is more engaged in doing that.
The northern regions region the poorest in Cameroon, ironically, they are the regions that give Paul Biya chance to succeed himself at Etoudi, Unity Palace.
Some dissent has raised alarms, cautioning that Elites should not use the people as Sheep but treat them as cameroonians with equal rights and equal opportunities.
