Buea Council seals shops of deceased trader

“I really wanted to know if someone dies, and the shop is locked, will the council still seal the shop because he has not opened it?” a concerned civilian raised the issue.

Teneng Emmanuel Awa reportedly died of Cholera on August 17, 2023, but was kept in the mortuary for almost one week.

“The family did not get in touch with the corpse because the council took the corpse away after the corpse spent one week in the mortuary but was later buried without the family members notified.”

On Monday, September 25, 2023, agents from the Buea Council sealed his shops at Mile 17, restricting access for anyone. But his co-traders said the Council is not ignorant of the fact that the owner of the shop is deceased.

Council agents have been sealing shops in the Buea subdivision especially on Mondays, as a means to punish owners for respecting ghost towns, a civil disobedience strategy by Ambazonia separatists.
