Pirates hijack three boats, seize belongings in Mundemba creeks
Dozens of people traveling from Mundemba in Ndian Division, to Idenau in the Fako Division, South West region were picked up at gun point by pirates on Saturday, July 2, 2022.
“We were taken from our boat to the bushes. They removed passengers from other boats into our boat, in fact, they removed passengers from about three boats into only two boats. They now used their boat to push ours into the creeks where they coll3ected all our belongings including our clothes and shoes,” a victim said.
The incident occurred around 11 PM. The victims were later rescued by the military after the driver of the boat succeeded to make a distress call.
“The boat driver was able to call the security forces because the pirates forgot to collect his phone,” the victim said.
No one was hurt but all their goods, money, and other items were taken away.
