Tiko population protest, demand release of vigilante members

The Divisional officer of Tiko is under fire for ordering the arrest of some members of a self-defense vigilante group, a local source told the CNA newsdesk that the protest took place on Sunday, November 13, 2022.

The population of Boganjo village in Tiko subdivision in the South West region marched to the administrator’s office to express their discontent towards the arrest and alleged torture of the young on Saturday, November 12, 2022. According to the villagers, these are vigilantes guarding and maintaining order in their village.

The DO, Voh Kaweh Armstrong claimed that the village is not yet considered by the law and risks getting dissolved.

On his part, the vice chairman of the Boganjo Traditional Council, Martins Njie, explained that the young men that were arrested are part of the group created by the traditional authority of the village, HRM Mbua Litake, to keep the youths busy and free from indulging in illegal activities.

“These same men arrested have brought a lot of peace to our village and helped send out separatist fighters and today, they are been held to be what they fought against,” Martins Njie added.
