AFCON 2021: Cote d’Ivoire Eliminates Defending Champions, Algeria

The Desert Foxes were beaten 3-1 at the Japoma stadium in Douala in a thrilling encounter that saw thousands of spectators. This was the second time the Algerians were beaten after more than 30 unbeaten records.

The titleholders have been booted out of the competition to the embarrassment of supporters.

Angered Algerian

An Algerian supporter Momo Henni goes wild after their 1-3 defeat against Cote d’Ivoire in the last group game at the Japoma stadium. “Cote d’Ivoire had already qualified for the next round but they played all their lives against us…it took me five hours to fix my TV receiver just to watch Algeria taking three goals.” He said while breaking his Television.

Ivorians in Port Bouet Gounzag, tell our stringer in Cote d’Ivoire that they are confident their team can beat anyone including Cameroon. There is fanfare on streets and beer parlors as Ivorians celebrate an 8th final spot in the ongoing AFCON.

Good pitch

Four days before the last group game, the Ivorians played at the same Japoma stadium but part of the pitch was bad. However rehabilitation works were quickly done and it became a brand new to the appreciation of Serge Aurier.
