US Dems Congressmen Call On Biden Administration To Designate Cameroon TPS

The call was jointly made on July 30, 2021, by members of the U.S. Representatives Zoe Lofgren (CA-19), Chair of the House Subcommittee on Immigration and Citizenship, and Jerrold Nadler (NY-10), Chair of the House Judiciary Committee.

The 22 members said it is of utmost importance and emergency for the Biden Administration to designate Cameroon for Temporary Protected Status (TPS) This will permit thousands of asylum seekers not to be repatriated.

Burma (Myanmar), El Salvador, Haiti, Honduras, Nepal, Nicaragua, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, Syria, Venezuela and Yemen, are currently under the TPS-designated countries.

“For the tens of thousands of Cameroonians in the United States who are at risk of extreme violence, death, and displacement if forced to return to their home country, urgent action is imperative,” wrote the lawmakers.

The Trump administration repatriated hundredths of Cameroonians and the plan to continue was taken up by the Biden administration but Democratic members of Congress have been battling to overturn such moves.
