UK to Block Cameroon, Three Nations from UK Visas

The United Kingdom has announced that it would block study visas for Cameroonian nationals. The ban will also affect the citizens of Afghanistan, Myanmar and Sudan.
According to a Reuters report: “The interior ministry, which is set to block study visas for nationals from Afghanistan, Cameroon, Myanmar and Sudan, said asylum applications by students from these countries had jumped more than fivefold between 2021 and 2025”.
The report added that “According to the government, asylum claims made after entering on legal visas have more than trebled since 2021 and ‌accounted for 39% of the 100,000 people who applied last year”. This means that many Cameroonians were using study visas as a means to enter the UK and later file asylum applications.
As a result, a combined total of 16,000 nationals from Cameroon, Afghanistan, Myanmar and Sudan were being housed at hotels – costs borne by the British taxpayer at 4 billion pounds a year.
Cameroon and the UK are both members of the Commonwealth but immigration has been a hot topic in the UK in the last few years following Brexit.
