Pro-democracy activist, Sebastien Eballa freed from the Kondengui central prison.

Arrested in 2020 for calling on Paul Biya to hand over power to Maurice Kamto, whom he recognised as the winner of the 2018 presidential elections, the radio journalist spent two years in jail.

Before his arrest, Sebastien Eballa had taken a radical approach by calling on Cameroonians to oust Paul Biya in an uprising.

He was arrested on April 17, 2020 and held for several months at the State Defence Secretariat, SED, where he was allegedly tortured.

In September, he was sentenced to 2 years imprisonment with a fine of FCFA 50,000 for propagating false information and attempt on the integrity of the president.

Eballa was freed this May 27 in Yaounde.
