Vincent Aboubakar, four others excluded from Besiktas first team

By Arrey Egbe

30-year-old Indomitable Lions captain Vincent Aboubakar is amongst the five foreign players dismissed by Turkish top-flight club,  Besiktas.

According to a release this Monday, December 11, the club said the decision is based on “poor performance” and “incompatibilities within the team”.

Vincent Aboubakar was excluded alongside his Cameroonian international counterpart Jean Onana, Eric Bailly, Rachid Ghezzal and Valentin Rosier.

Since rejoining Besiktas from Al Nassr in January, the “Dark Invader” has been instrumental for the squad scoring 17 goals in 28 games.

“”Our number one priority is to build a better team – we will fill the holes in our squad during the [winter] break,” new Besiktas president Hasan Arat told the AFP news agency.

Meantime the players’ contracts have not been terminated but they have been removed from the first team and will now train away from the squad awaiting future details from the club.

Besiktas are fifth on the league table, 14 points behind top two Fenerbahce and Galatasaray after 15 games of the season.

As it stands Besiktas have been booted out of the Europa Conference League and are bottom of their group after four defeats in five games.
