North West: Dismissed SDF members join NUDP

A group of dismissed senior members of the Social Democratic Front, SDF, known as the G27, have officially joined the National Union for Democracy and Progress, NUDP, in Bamenda, declaring their support for the party’s candidate, Bello Bouba Maigari, in the October 12, 2025, presidential election.
The move comes just weeks after their counterparts from the West region, led by Hon. Tsoumelou Jean, also switched allegiance to the NUDP in Bafoussam. The late SDF Chairman, Ni John Fru Ndi, had sacked the group from the party for allegedly violating party rules.
In a statement dated August 15, the North West G27 members stated that their endorsement follows a careful analysis of the political programs of all parties. They described the NUDP’s political and economic agenda as the only credible platform to address Cameroon’s challenges, particularly in the Anglophone regions. The group believes Bello Bouba can end the protracted armed conflict in the North West and South West through “humane and realistic policies” rather than continued military action.
The G27 also aligned with their West Region colleagues in calling for a return to federalism, the creation of a Vice-President post with defined powers, and a rotational presidency between Anglophones and Francophones. They further urged the release of political prisoners, a general amnesty for those involved in the conflict, and an inclusive national dialogue.
Hon. Yoyo Mohmbankah Emmanuel, former National Financial Secretary of the SDF and signatory of the statement, said the decision marks a “commitment to reconciliation and national renewal,” calling on Cameroonians to rally behind Bouba Bello in October to “usher in new leadership in this land.”
This endorsement comes at a time when political actors and civil society are increasingly urging opposition parties to form a coalition to present a united front against the ruling party’s decades-long dominance.
