Nigeria: Father and son arrested for alleged examination malpractice

A man and his son have been arrested in Nigeria over allegations of examination malpractice during the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

The information was made public by the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB).

According to Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, the Registrar of JAMB, the father was apprehended attempting to impersonate his son and take the examination on his behalf.

Both suspects reports say have been detained by the police following the incident, which was revealed during an inspection tour of UTME centers in Kaduna.

Oloyede emphasized the role of technology in combating malpractice, as he said, “For those who engage in cheating, they should know that it does not pay.”

In a related development, JAMB also sanctioned one of its officials in Lagos for instructing a female candidate to remove her hijab during the 2024 UTME.

The names of the accused individuals have however not been disclosed by the agency.
