Naseri Clovis and Nkonda Titus, the warmongers practicing what they accuse their enemies of doing

People are always for or against every revolution, conflict, or crisis. The case of Cameroon is complex because all have not welcomed the struggle for independence by some Anglophone leaders.

While some people believe that the state of Southern Cameroon is restored as was the case in 1961, others think that it should be restored and given outright independence without generating with East Cameroon. Some proponents say decentralization is the only solution to the decades of issues concerning the state of Cameroon. To some and that is the government’s opinion, Cameroon is one and indivisible.

While the war has continued to surge since 2016, the government has stepped up measures necessary for peace to return. A Major National Dialogue was organized in October 2019 where the first batch of former combatants was presented to the public as they pledged to maintain peace while undergoing rehabilitation at the Disarmament, Demobilization, and Rehabilitation centres in Bamenda and Buea, in the North West and South West regions respectively.

The Buea DDR resident, Naseri Clovis has infamously risen to Facebook prominence, was inspired by UK-based Nkonda Titus Aghem, also known as My Kontri Pipo Dem, MKPD, the man from Momo Division in the North West region who started fighting the separatists because he was kidnapped and manhandled.

When Naseri Clovis arrived the DDR centre,he was mainly used to locate camps of his former colleagues for the military to invade. Following the footsteps of Nkonda Titus, Clovis started using Social Media to pass out his messages and also discourage others from picking up arms to fight the central government.

As the weeks passed by, months to years, both men gradually fit into the same shoes of the separatists whom they accuse of gross human rights violations. While Nkonda Titus, alias MKPD hides his face to ask for civilians to be targeted in several of his videos, Naseri Clovis who has not mastered the art has adopted the name, MKPD Junior; doing the same thing as his role model.

In a live video on August 20, 2022, in an effort to recruit more DDR candidates from the bushes, Naseri Clovis advised his former colleagues to intimidate civilians, collect money and leave the group, “This is the rainy season right? wait until December when Cocoa farmers must have sold Cocoa and brought back home money, do you know what you will do? Go to his house and put him at gunpoint and tell him that you need FCFA 5 million and if he does not want to give, remove his one finger. If he hesitates, take his child and threaten to kill,” he said.

The creation of fake pages, and cloning others is a common phenomenon in wartime but risking the lives of civilians in many of their outings is a clear indication that they are not different from whom they accuse.

They use words that Facebook and other Social media platform will not detect as violent. In many of their videos and flyers, they use the word “KUM-KUM” widely known within the revolution as “KILL”. These young warmongers take pleasure in asking government forces to visit the homes of suspects and give them “KUM-KUM” in simple terms kill them.

In what they call operation sunshine Amba, civilians have suffered the most. They also ask that every Ambazonia fighter’s parents, girlfriends, and children be targeted ” Distribute Kum-kum to their, papa, mama, girlfriend and pikin dem”, “meaning trace and kill their father, mother, girlfriend, and children”

This is exactly what some of the Ambazonia fighters are accused of doing. Some of the fighters appear in videos and warn that they will start targeting “blacklegs”, those who work with the government. In return, the two warmongers have also said they will start targeting anyone suspected of having connections or in relation to any fighter.

From exposing the faces of children and women to giving false intel to government forces, Naseri Clovis and Nkonda Titus have no regard for human rights- in fact, human life! Most of these videos and pictures have been downloaded by CNA in case they are deleted after they read this article.

In one of the posts made by Nkonda Titus about an alleged Ambazonia fighter, he said, “So this Ambazonia terrorist called Animal for married at Kumba 2 Council. I know this because of the Mayor, He is Section President of CPDM. Mayor of Kumba II Sub divisional Council. Chief Mbachu Jacob Kay.The Mayor will be able to provide us with all the details, his real name, wife’s name, parents, address etc.. We blacklegs need to visit them all. Anyone standing in the way of us getting our justice, we will “kumkumise” them too.

Some of these pages calling for the killing of civilians include Ma Kontri Man Junior, Kontri Pipo, A Better Cameroon, Caneroonianese, Mboa. Several victims have reached out to CNA to tell their ordeal on how they were accused and how they escaped while some are still in jail still pending trial. CNA is still compiling the stories.

Pinning down economic operators

In every war situation, the economy must continue to survive and for that to happen, most of these businessmen have found a way of compromising the combatants by “buying their peace”. That is paying a huge amount of money not to be disturbed by any group. This has been going on and even practiced by big businessmen and even Parliamentarians. A case in point is when the late Hon Mbah Ndam said he paid some fighters not to disturb the peace of his area.

Some plantation owners in Meme and Ndian Divisions are also said to have bribed the separatists. These dons are never targetted by the warmongers but they find pleasure in “sun shining” small businessmen who are struggling to survive by playing to the gallery of the separatists. It is common knowledge that if the fighters ask for ransom or “tax” for you to operate, you do so in order not to lose your property. This reporter is not defending kidnapping for ransom or intimidation, but that has been the common reality in places where government forces can hardly reach.

So now, does paying a ransom or abiding by the rule of the gun make you a supporter?

What international law says about warmongers, warlords and offenders of crimes against humanity

The ICC’s jurisdiction includes prosecuting individuals for crimes of genocide, crimes against humanity, war crimes, and the crime of aggression.

It may take years but every act in a war situation will be judged by competent jurisdictions. Those who commit crimes against humanity like warmongers and warlords shall be judged. Warlords on the part of separatists who instigate killings and are documented shall be prosecuted by the ICC in due time. In 2014, the ICC started proceedings against Warlord Bosco Ntaganda accused of rights violations in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Likewise, warmongers be it separatists or government supporters shall face the same fate no matter the time. The judgment may not come from the ICC but there are other international laws that can act as alternatives. Also, should Cameroon experience a regime change, there are chances that the new leader will want to clear off dirty files by prosecuting these individuals in competent courts. In 2020 a Rwandan Court charged Paul Rusesabagina, whose story inspired the film “Hotel Rwanda,” with terrorism, complicity in murder, and forming an armed rebel group.
