Inhabitants of Bamali-Ndop cry foul as blackout hits about 70% of village

By Nukapuh P

The people of Bamali village in Ndop, Ngoketunjia division in the North West region are complaining that they have been abandoned in darkness for long.

This comes after two electrical transformers in the village caught fire and exploded, leaving more than half of the village in darkness for several weeks.

“This light issue is just like another Anglophone crisis in this village and Ndop as a whole. At times we usually spent weeks without electricity but now it is just the worse,” a villager complained.

“It is very difficult to carry-on with some of our businesses because powerful machines can’t operate on generators. We are really begging that Eneo should come and change the transformers,” a business man by name Emmanuel said.

According to information gathered, one transformer at Power junction had long been burnt, while another at Njiagwat quarter burned up about a week ago.

The transformers have been down for a while and nothing has been done by electricity supply company to remedy the situation

The people are also complaining that all the transformers in the village are not powerful and causing a lot of low voltage even when there is electricity.

“Is not easy to charge even phones because when there is light we usually face a lot of low voltage. We have been complaining for a long time now,” another inhabitant said.

Bamali is one amongst the 4 villages that make up Ndop subdivision in Ngoketunjia division.
