NCPBC president says civil society must fight hate, xenophobia in Cameroon

The President of the National Commission for the Promotion of Bilingualism and Multiculturalism, NCPBM Cameroon, former PM, Peter Mafany Musonge, has called on 14 Civil Society organizations to intensify the fight against hate speech and xenophobia in Cameroon.

The statement was made during the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with the 14 organizations to reinforce the fight against the rising phenomenon.

According to the president, the fight against hate speech and xenophobia must be the concern of all and sundry and not only the responsibility of the Commission.

He challenged civil society actors to join the campaign and reminded them that the dangerous trend the phenomenon is taking is threatening the efforts of peace and unity laid by the country’s founding fathers.

The Bamenda chapter president of the Cameroon Association of English-speaking Journalists, CAMASEJ, Muma Jude said “As Media men we individually and collectively want to ensure that we preach tolerance and people should shun away from hate speech and xenophobia. This is only coming to add to what we have been doing”

The 14 Civil Society organizations which include domains of women and girls, students and teachers, and persons dealing with patriotic awareness pledge to carry sensitization messages on the dangers of hate speech and xenophobia all over Cameroon and beyond.
