External Relations Minister’s nephew arrested for fraud

The Nephew of the External Relations Minister, Lejeun Mbella Mbella was sent to Kondengui maximum prison. Philippe Mbella and another person, Division Chief Serge Ayissi were detained after investigators discovered that they were involved in visa fraud.
Philippe Mbella, who works at the Spanish Embassy in Cameroon, is accused of distributing visas to Cameroonians going to Spain without passing through the official visa route.
The accused was an employee of the Embassy in Yaunde and worked in the accounting department.
The Africa Intelligence reported that the Spanish Embassy got a hint of such maneuvers and alerted the General Delegation for National Security. A fact-check was conducted at Cameroon’s two international airports, where at least five persons were arrested with such visas. The five are said to have bribed and paid their way u tt the Schengen zone in Europe.
Philippe was arrested and is helping with the investigations. The issue was raised by one of his clients who complained of paying a large sum of money without obtaining a visa.
