Douala 5: Many arrested weeks after killing of female Gendarme

The Divisional Officer of Douala 5 sub-division, Dr. Cletus Asongwe on Monday June 19, 2023, ordered a security operation in the municipality with the aim of eradicating criminality. Many hoodlums who had been terrorizing the population were arrested.

“We have decided that these bandits who use motorbikes to aattack the population and give them sleepless nights will pay for their crimes. This operation will touch every neighbourhood in our beloved Douala 5 sub-division,” Asongwe said.

The mixed tesk of police, gendarmes and the Douala 5 municipal council police led to the arrest of over a 50 suspected criminals and seizure of motorbikes without documents and other items. They were detained at the Gendarmerie Brigade Ter. Akwa Nord.

“In the course of the operation on Monday, we were able to arrest a good number of these men of the underworld. Several motorcycles were confiscated. I want to tell them that, we are immune to tiredness. We are will continue hunting them until the municipality is cleansed. It’s a sound warning I am sending to them. They better start parking their bags out of this sub-division because it will not be rosy for them.” The Civil Administrator cautioned.

What mainly sparked this security operation was the killing of a young female Gendarme about two weeks ago.

“They had the courage to attack and kill a law enforcement officer. The blood of that Gendarme killed will continue dropping on them. That way, we will identify all of them including thieves , drug traffickers and consumers of narcotics. They have no place in this municipality. We will hunt them relentlessly untill the last of them is fished out of hiding. Those we have already arrested will serve as an example to others. All their hide outs have been identified.” The D.O warned.

Douala 5 is one of the sub-divisions in the Wouri Division of the Littoral region with high rate of insecurity.
