Eneo restores electricity at Douala university

The company in charge of distribution of electrical energy in the country, Eneo has announced they have restored electricity at the University of Douala and have given the Rector two weeks to pay the institution’s debts.

The announcement was made by the group on Tuesday October 4th 2022.

The University for about two weeks now is said to have been operating without electricity. This resulted in a lot of challenges for students especially for the registration process as well as carrying out other activities on campus this new school year.

According to Ebongue Sosso a year 2 student in computer science, this has affected quality of education:

“Lack of electricity on campus makes it difficult for us to study effectively, students have to share their laptops with their friends as the lecturer cannot use a projector to teach.”

Another student, Emmanuel Junior says the situation makes it difficult for lecturers to communicate due to lack of microphones and speakers in the amphitheaters .

The company says the university owes the sum of F CFA 1,837,785,858 billion in unpaid bills accumulated for years now. They say, the gesture is a manifestation of their good faith and encfourage the university to pay their debts or face another outage.

According to Eneo, this is not the only state institution that has unpaid bills. Several others accumulate a debt of over F CFA 150billion fcfa. Town halls and state hospitals are not left out.
