Mamfe, Cameroon-Sunday December 31st, 2017-00:05 AM Local Time(Cameroon News Agency) Cameroon’s defense Minister, Joseph Beti Assomo could likely visit Mamfe in Manyu division, South West Region this Sunday, a reliable source has hinted CNA.
The Minister is visiting the area to spend new year eve and new year with soldiers fighting against armed men specialised in sporadic attacks on men in uniform.
Mr Assomo’s visit could also be a moral booster to the troops at war front engaged in a fight with an unknown enemy, described today by Communication Minister Issa Bakary as secessionist.
CNA correspondent in Mamfe has confirmed that armored vehicles were seen entering Mamfe early Saturday.
This will not be the first time Joseph Beti Assomo will be spending new year eve with soldiers. Last year, he was in Kolofata in the Far North region where Boko Haram insurgents are wrecking havoc.
However in Mamfe, the main target in the attacks are military. General Melingui heading operations in Mamfe expressed worries in an interview broadcast on TV 5 Monde that some military men have decamped to join the secessionist.
Casualties have been reported on both sides with Ayaba Cho based in the Norway claiming responsibility in the name of Ambazonia Defense Forces, ADF.
Colonel Didier Badjeck in charge of Communication, recently debunked information circulated by “Ambazonia” different news outlets on social media that one Gendarme gunned down 13 colleagues for killing an old man in Manyu division.
