CNA’s Hans Ngala Selected as World Press Institute Fellow

We are delighted to announce that our Political Affairs Editor, Ngala Hansel, has been selected as a World Press Institute (WPI) Fellow for 2026.

The US-based organization selected Ngala as one of 9 successful applicants from a pool of 1,000 applications submitted from across the world. He will be based as a fellow at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, USA.

This announcement is a reflection of his diligent, fact-based, and rigorous journalism, which places CNA as one of the leading digital English news sources in Cameroon. Hansel now joins a coveted list of just four Cameroonians who have been granted the fellowship previously, including Peter Essoka, who was selected in 1978. The last Cameroonian WPI fellow was 23 years ago.

As part of his fellowship, Hansel will join the other eight fellows and meet with American colleagues in leading US media organizations, including Politico, Newsweek, The New York Times, The Washington Post, CNN, among others. He and other fellows will also meet with US politicians in various cities and states across the US. Hansel will be required to produce various reports for publication on our website and the WPI website, showcasing his experiences and perceptions of American politics and culture as a non-American reporter. We congratulate him on this remarkable achievement.

The annual WPI Fellowship is funded by the US State Department and brings 10 foreign journalists from around the world to immerse them in US culture, media, and politics. It has existed every year since 1961.
