Chris Anu uncertain over Field Marshall’s alleged death, military says Amba leader neutralised
News of his alleged death broke out on Tuesday, July 12, 2022, with pro-government Activists running the frontline stories on their social media pages.
Most of these were written on cloned Facebook pages that left readers accepting the story because the names of the pages are similar to that of popular Ambazonia Activists. The cloning of Facebook accounts is not new in the ongoing armed conflicts.
Our independent findings met with controversial versions. While the Ambazonia Governing Council’s spokesman, Capo Daniel confirmed that indeed Oliver Lekeaka, alias Field Marshall was dead, other frontline Activists insisted that the picture circulating on social media was fake.
“Fake news. There was an attack, but FM Field Marshall is alive” a Diasporan commander, Fombat told CNA on Wednesday, July 13, 2022.
German-based Deputy Secretary of State in charge of Communication and Information Technology in the Iya Marianta, Interim Government, Clovis Nanchop, said the information was fake and that the propagators are dreaming.
But the brother of Field Marshall, US-based Christopher Anu, did not confirm whether or not his brother was still alive. A message he allegedly posted in a forum on Wednesday 13, reads,
“Comrades, my fingers are still crossed as yours. Right now, I cannot say with certainty that FMA is killed or alive. I have, however, confirmed that there was a severe LRC invasion of his camp. All the fighters have not been accounted for. Intelligence from LRC BIRs in Menji says they have not seen nor been told anything. However, some other sources still within them have said LRC plans on displaying FMA’s remains in Menji, Alou, Dschang and then take it to Kumba tomorrow morning. Only until then would I confirm that FMA has indeed fallen. The photos on social media just do not look like him. I spoke with him this morning GZ time, he also spoke with another person in the USA at about after 10 am, eastern time. A confidant of his in Menji spoke with him at 3 pm amba time on video. FMA, only yesterday sent me a close-up photo of his taken same yesterday. What we see on social media just doesn’t look like him. Whatever the case, we will know with certainty in a matter of hours. Thank you all for your concerns.”
Chris Anu has always been able to immediately confirm or debunk claims about the situation of his brother. But this time around he could not be too affirmative.
Pro-government Activists say Field Marshall’s five numbers were busy with calls from across the world to know what happened. But they had no response from him.
Field Marshall’s Camp Attacked by Insiders
On Tuesday, July 12, 2022, the interior camp of Oliver Lekeaka was attacked by insiders. He was allegedly hit on the head while asleep. Field Marshall was ill, weak, and looked worn-out in a recent video shared on social media. But it is not also clear when he tinted his hair. It is not certain why his inner circle allegedly attacked him. But sources say the Red Dragons became a shadow of itself after many dissertations and Field Marshall himself withdrew for health reasons.
Military intelligence set in
Government forces only came to the Upper Banyang hideout of Field Marshall after the deed had been done by those described today as “ambahunters”. A military dispatch adds that his bodyguard was killed while others ran into the bushes.
