Celebration of world braille day: persons with visual impairment commit to teaching peers

Members of the Hope Social Union for the Visually Impaired, HSUVI Bamenda have committed themselves to educate and teach their peers with braille and basic ICT skills.

They took the commitment Wednesday January 4, 2023, during the celebration of the 5th edition of World Braille Day, which took place at their newly inaugurated office at Mile 4, Bamenda III subdivision.

Speaking during the celebration which was also to inaugurate the new HSUVI office, the President, Tonain Peter revealed that the association is taking the commitment to teach their peers and new members on how to use braille and ICT:

“We will be doing a lot of activities to empower persons with visual impairment, beginning with the braille because we will teach them on how to write and read using the braille”.

The President of HSUVI Bamenda also revealed during the celebration that the association has been moving around to sensitize the public about braille and some of their activities:

“The essence of the commemoration of this day is to lay emphasis on the importance of braille. So we think that it is very important to come out and sensitize the public about this day”.

It was also made known by the secretary of the association, that they will also be engaging in craft works, music and poetry in order to boost the skills of members in many dimensions.

The 5th edition of World Braille Day celebrated under the theme “working together to ensure inclusive societies for persons with visual impairment” was graced with animation by the HSUVI socio-cultural njang dance group in Bamenda.

Members of Hope Social Union for the Visually Impaired, HSUVI Bamenda ended the celebration with donations, and pleaded with authorities to assist them financially so that they can realize some their projects.
