Cavaye Yeguie reelected National Assembly Speaker

Majority ruling CPDM Members of Parliament have reelected Hon. Cavaye Yeguie Djibril as the speaker of the National Assembly. He secured 143 out of 156 votes, 13 null votes were recorded as the opposition with just 20 MPs had no voice nor candidate.

Since 1992, Hon. Cavaye Yeguie Djibril has occupied the function of House Speaker at Cameroon’s lower house of parliament.

The CPDM carried the day with all the major executive roles at the Assembly with only the entry of Bara Julien who replaced Hon. Isabelle Silikam, who died in December 2023.

It is also expected that Senators of the Upper House of Parliament vote for ailing leader Marcel Niat Njifendji who was rushed from a hospital bed after stalling talks at the Senate for almost two weeks because of his absence.
