Cameroon’s first automatic toll gate operational

The minister of public works has given his approval for the Mbeka’a toll gate situated on the Kribi-Lolabé road to be functional.

The Mbeka’a toll station goes operational with a semi automatic payment mode for a start with prices ranging from F CFA 600 to F CFA 6500 and an estimated speed of 100km/h. The toll station will be used by commuters who will access the Edea-Kribi-Lolabé 38.5km motorway whose first phase is completed and now open to all. This section of the road is linked to the Kribi deep seaport with a 1.24km entrance and aims at boosting its competitiveness and easing access of goods to cities.

The exploitation and maintenance of the highway has been fixed for a period of 30 years by the Chinese company in charge of works, China Harbour Engineering Company as stipulated in a public-private partnership contract signed on December 30 2020.

The first phase of the Edea-Kribi-Lolabé road was penned on November 28, 2012 and is worth F CFA 250 billion and is co-financed by Eximbank of China 85% and the Cameroon government 15%.
