Renovations to the studio of the University of Buea (UB) campus radio, Chariot FM 93.5, have been completed. This is the first phase of renovations which were initiated by the Association of Student Journalists, University of Buea (ASJUB) as part of its 30th anniversary on June 13.
Dr. Nengieh Lizzie Wantchami who is Head of Department for Journalism and Mass Communication (JMC) at the University, presented this first phase of the station’s renovation on June 25th, crediting the JMC 2001 batch and CAMASEJ Buea for their support which made the acquisition of a new desktop computer and curtains for the studio, possible.
Chariot Radio’s new look is part of a project initiated by the Association of Student Journalists, University of Buea, abbreviated as ASJUB, to revamp the facility in line with its 30th anniversary celebration on June 13, 2025, under the theme, Journalism and Mass Communication in the era of Digitisation.
The total rehabilitation is expected to cost an estimated FCFA 2 Million, with FCFA 1 Million already been pledged and yet to be redeemed. However, the first phase was realised with the cash contributions raised during the ASJUB anniversary.
Speaking on behalf of the 2001 batch, Dr Eng. Otto Enyame, who doubles as coordinator of Chariot Radio, said the gesture of his class was in response to an invitation extended to them by ASJUB and went on to commend the unity and solidarity which the HOD, Dr Nengieh, had created to realize the project and said he hoped other batches will also chip in their support.
The refurbishments happened just in time for the upcoming University Games scheduled for early July, which will be broadcast over Chariot FM.
