Biya creates National Sports Facilities and Equipment Board

In a decree signed this August 11th, President Paul Biya has created a National Sports Facilities and Equipment Board (NSFEB) and set the rules governing this body. This comes after images of the abandoned stadia were widely shared on social media.

The NSFEB, the decree says, shall have a Chairperson, and will be made up of 7 members who shall be appointed by presidential decree. It shall have headquarters in Yaounde and regional bramches may be created over time as the need arises. It shall have as mission to use its expertise to ensure the upkeep, repair, operation, safety, development and sustainability of sports facilities and equipment as well as specific related facilities built or developed by the state.

In another decree, the Head of State respectively appoints Mr Youssoufa Ousmanou and Mr Wadt Zela Fonye Francis as representatives of the Presidency of the Republic and of the Prime Minister’s office among an 11-member board of directors of the Institute of Agricultural Research for Development.

The board is made up of representatives of the ministries of scientific research and innovation, finance, economy planning and regional development, Livestock, fisheries and animal industries, environment, nature protection and sustainable development, forestry and wildlife and agriculture and rural development. To complete the board, there is a representative of professional organizations and an elected staff representative. The board members will have a three-year term of office renewable once.

The Institute of Agricultural Research for Development (IRAD) is a public administrative institution created by the presidential decree N° 96/050 of 12 March 1996, and modified by decree N° 2002/230 of 06 September 2002.

Another presidential decree still signed Wednesday August 17 appoints Mr Nkoum – Me – Ntseny Louis – Marie Magloire as Ambassador Extraordinary and plenipotentiary of the Republic of Cameroon to the Republic of Congo.
