Bagam: succession crisis continue

Over two years after dissappearance of His Royal Highness Simo Tenkeu Zossie Jean Marie, succession struggles still continue among the people of Bagam and the administration is obliged to step in.

Gatherings, meetings, public manifestations, rituals and other public activities have been now been banned 500 meters around the Bagam palace.

This information is contained in a préfectoral decision taken this July 21st by the Senior Divisional Officer for Bamboutos François Franquelin as a means to reinforce measures previously taken by administrative authorities to resolve the ongoing chieftaincy crisis in Bagam.

This decision comes at a moment when verified sources revealed a planned traditional outing of a Fon this Friday July 22nd organised by an opposing clan of Princes and princesses of the palace. This clan according to the same sources had mobilized the Bagam people calling on them to turn out massively this day on the main Street of the palace to acclaim the outing of their supposed Fon.

While seriously warning these people against taking any such actions, the SDO has called on the Bagam people to give a deaf ear to such calls that are aimed at dividing them and creating confusion. He also called on the people to trust the administration considering that efforts are being made to resolve the issue once and for all.

Neither accusing nor supporting any of the clans, the SDO declared he wants the people of Bagam to sincerely dialogue and resolve the issue without undermining administrative authorities and laws of the republic.

Talking of resolving this issue, West regional Governor Awa Fonka Augustine recently created a commission to resolve the crisis whose first meeting was scheduled to be held this Friday July 22nd but was postponed to an unknown date due to administrative reasons.

The Bagam Ccieftaincy crisis began after the dissappearance of HRH Simo Tenkeu Zossie Jean Marie on May 23, 2020. Princes and Princesses were divided as to who is the natural heir to the throne as two chiefs were chosen by two different clans with one of the clans accusing the other of falsifying their late Fon’s will.

The throne has been empty for over two years now.
