Faris Moumbagna’s injury “difficult” setback

Faris Moumbagna’s injury sustained in Olympique of Marseille’s opening game of the 2024-2025 Ligue 1 season against Stade Brestois on Saturday, August 17, will immensely affect the Cameroonian and his club.

OM was off to a resounding start with a 5-1 bashing of Brest, but Moumbagna’s injury became the day’s main concern. He played only eight minutes in the match after coming in as a substitute in the second half.

Faris was hoping to consolidate his place with the team this season as a key striker, but his injury has come as a major setback.

The 24-year-old joined the Ligue 1 side in January 2024 from Norwegian club Bodo/Glimt, and scored three goals in 13 Ligue 1 appearances with one assist. The new season came as a new challenge for the player.

With the injury situation, several reports are suggesting Everton forward, Neal Maupay, is being considered as a possible solution. A move is yet to be confirmed.

Moumbagna has undergone surgery on his right knee where he had a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament.

Teammates and fans have wished the attacker a speedy recovery, including FECAFOOT President, Samuel Eto’o, who granted him a visit.
