PAP SG says Anglophone detainees must be released before any May 20 celebration

The Popular Action Party (PAP) headed by Njang Denise has damned any activity surrounding the celebration of the 50th National Day on May 20, 2022. Fabrice Lena, PAP’s Secretary General on his Facebook page says it is deceitful to celebrate national unity when non – violent protesters are languishing in the Kondengui Central Prison in Yaounde.   “We can’t talk of national Unity with people like Mancho Bibixy, Pen Terence and Tsi Conrade in prison. We can’t talk of national Unity when we are not united in solving the county’s problems” Fabrice Lena PAP’s Secretary General wrote.

Faces of some detainees of the crisis

An aspect that instigated the Anglophone crisis was unequal distribution of resources. The crisis according to some opposition political figures and civil society activists persists because of what they have termed a failed and a prank major national dialogue.  PAP termed it a political rally of the ruling CPDM party of President Paul Biya. This and chronic unemployment do not merit praises for the National Day.

“We can’t talk of national unity when we don’t share equally in the distribution of the national cake. We can’t talk of national unity when some people have taken upon themselves to block all initiatives of dialogue and negotiations, peace building or root cause resolution of the ongoing war. We can’t talk of national unity in a condition of despair, unemployment, hunger, civil unrest and ongoing war”.

PAP believes Unity is being forced on Cameroonians by the Biya government. “Your enforcement of unity by propaganda is ironically creating more division amongst the people” Lena states.

The Njang Denise led party has thus reiterated the importance of the release of all detainees of the Anglophone Crisis, with frank talks initiated to redefine the basis of living together to establish acceptable conditions for both the government and separatists.
