Chad-Cameroon Cooperation: Chadian Minister decries illegal checkpoints on Cameroon side

Cameroon and Chad have deliberated on the development of joint road construction projects that link the two countries.

This was reviewed during a bilateral meeting held on Monday, November 20, 2023, in Yaounde.

Discussing a number of projects were, Chad’s Minister of Infrastructures and Disclavement, Dr Idriss Saleh Bachar, and Cameroon’s Minister of Public Works, Emmanuel Nganou Djoumessi.

The deliberations focused on the construction work on the bridge over the Lagone River linking Yagoua in Cameroon and Bongor in Chad, the project to build a new bridge linking Kousseri and N’Djamina via Farcha, and the traffic flow on the Douala-N’Djamina corridor.

“We have decided that our experts will seat and define a chronograph for the achievement of those particular projects,” Minister Nganou Djoumessi said.

The Chadian Minister decried over 67 illegal checkpoints mounted on the Cameroonian side of the Douala-N’Djamina corridor, pleading with the government to redress the situation.

Cameroon’s Public Works boss stated; “We will be working in order to reduce this, but I explained that the control is extremely important, not to allow the criminals to move easily,”.
