African Union Commission Welcomes Swiss Mediation In Cameroon

The Chairman of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat has on Saturday, July 27, welcome the announced mediation between the Southern Cameroons Separatist (Ambazonia) and The Republic of Cameroon.

In a press statement, he said, “The Chairperson reaffirms the African Union’s support for any initiative aimed at peace, stability and national reconciliation in Cameroon, and reiterates the Commission’s readiness to contribute to this initiative.”

The statement further read that ” The Chairperson encourages all parties to engage in this path in a spirit of compromise with a view to reaching a political solution, and put the national interest of the country above all other considerations.”

In response, the US Under Secretary for African Affairs, Tibor Nagy, welcomed the stance of the AU Commission adding that the two should reach a political solution and put the national interest first.
