Yaounde: council agents destroy several roadside houses and shops

Agents from the Yaounde city council, with backup from security forces have descended to the Obili neighborhood with caterpillars this November 28, destroying shops and houses built along the public road.

Enormous material damages and huge financial losses have been incurred by the helpless victims who say they were not notified prior to the demolition.

“They just passed here this morning, marking houses and shops which have extended into the road, announcing a demolition after 24 hours. Shockingly, they came back destroying houses,” explained a source.

For weeks now, Yaounde city council authorities engaged a clean up campaign also aimed at fighting against urban disorder.

It is feared the exercise will extend to other areas .
