Donald Trump denounces conspiracy as he faces criminal charges

Former US President Donald Trump has been indicted by the Manhattan grand jury in a case relating to his alleged role in covering up a hush money payment to a porn star to bury a sex scandal during his 2016 presidential campaign.

The Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s office according to reports, has been investigating the former President in connection with a USD 130,000 payment to porn star Stormy Daniels in the last days of the 2016 election campaign. The money was allegedly intended to buy her silence about the encounter she says they had years before.

Trump has been scheduled to appear before the New York criminal court on Tuesday, April 4th.

In response to this, he released a statement stating that the indictment was a “political persecution and election interference at the highest level in history”.

“I believe this witch-hunt will backfire massively on Joe Biden. The American people realize exactly what the radical left democrats are doing here. Everyone can see it. So our movement and our party — united and strong — will first defeat Alvin Bragg, and then we will defeat Joe Biden, and we are going to throw every last one of these crooked democrats out of office so we can make America great again!”

However, Trump’s former personal lawyer and fixer Michael Cohen had said he coordinated with Trump on the payments to Daniels and a second woman, former Playboy model Karen McDougal.

Trump has denied the affair and says the payment was to protect his reputation from a false accusation, Aljazeera news reported. He went on to accuse the Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, the Democrat who led the investigation, of trying to hurt his electoral chances.
