Victim recounts how family coughed out millions to Nigerian-based Cameroonian scammer
The Cameroonian man is based in Abuja, Nigeria, and according to CNA findings has left many stranded after promising them visas to travel for greener pastures.
He has many names associated with his personality. To some, he is called, Neba, Jimmy alias Docteur, to others, he is called Gwanzo Murphy. He has many profiles on Facebook and uses them to scam his victims.
The stories from victims are heartwrenching. When CNA made a post about his dealings, a victim reached out to narrate his ordeal.
“It’s really a long story😢 we started working with this guy since 2020 before COVID-19 started and borders were being shut down. At that time he had done my ETA to travel to Canada and it was only remaining flight tickets before the borders were blocked so we had to wait till the borders were open but unfortunately for us the ETA’s got canceled so he said he was going to find another line this 2022”
But when 2022 arrived, Nebe, or better still Jimmy had another way to scam the young man to collect money for the second time.
“This time around we had to pay him FCFA 3.5 million for him to do another visa (work visa) and he later told us that it was out but after investigating, my sister noticed it was fake. He claimed that he wasn’t aware that he paid one Lady to produce the visa. After the two months, they gave us had passed he later said they didn’t succeed in getting the work visa and instead proposed we should do another ETA and we agreed. He now told us some weeks later to come to Nigeria that everything is ready all we need do is just to pay the flight but when we got there and sent him the remaining balance he kept on telling us for days that he is coming but never showed up. One day he told us he went to get the tickets and on his way back one guy gave him a bag to help him drop somewhere, meanwhile there were drugs inside and he had no idea so when the police stopped him and search the bag they saw the drugs and took him to the station. ” the victim narrated.
Neba also known as Docteur, knows how to play mind games with his victims and he always has something to say, something to cool down the temper and send more money for his lavish lifestyle.
The victim above has paid more than FCFA 5 million to travel to Canada but has never been given a valid travel document.
“He pleaded that he doesn’t have money right the way to give us back our money and that we should give him some time to sell his jeep and come give us back our money but till date, he is still telling us to hold on,” the victim said.
Neba has dealt with many Cameroonians seeking to travel abroad. It is not clear how many have been arrested with fake visas produced in his laboratory.
ANothe victim said the scammer took their money and bought the latest Highlander jeep last week, “He lives in two locations in Abuja (Gwarinpa and Gudu), he has impregnated a Cameroonian girl who was his client and they are living together. He is a smart criminal.”
