USAID gifts Cameroon 3600 tons of rice to fight food insecurity

The gift from the United States government via USAID targets 2.5 million Cameroonians in the Far North, North, East, Adamawa, North West and South West regions who are faced with severe food insecurity.

By October 2022, 21.193 tons of rice, sorghum and vegetable oil among others are expected in Douala via the World Food Programme. The goods will be shared between Cameroon, Chad and the Central African Republic.

The US government has been supporting Cameroon in combatting food insecurity through the World Food Programme which receives 100 thousand tons of food yearly.

Food insecurity is a reality especially in the northern regions of Cameroon

In April 2022, the US government donated F CFA17 billion to Cameroon as part of the F CFA188.6 billion USAID grants aimed at fighting food insecurity in the Sahel and West Africa.
