UNSG reiterates calls for ceasefire, release of hostages in Gaza-Israeli conflict

The spokesperson of the United Nations Secretary-General for the Middle East, Stéphane Dujarric, said the UN Scribe is still deeply concerned about the humanitarian situation in Gaza following Israeli bombardments.

On December 29, 2023, the UNSG raised concerns about, “further spillover” of the conflict, adding that it “could have devastating consequences for the entire region.”

The Secretary-General again appeals to all members of the international community to do everything in their power to use their influence on the relevant parties to prevent an escalation of the situation in the region.  The Secretary-General reiterates his call for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza and the immediate and unconditional release of all hostages.
