Center region: over 100 farmers compensated after lands destroyed for transmission line construction

About 200 persons whose lands were destroyed due to the construction of the high-tension electricity line have been compensated in Lobo and Okola in the Lekie division of the center region. They were compensated on January 10th with amounts which go from F CFA 100,000 after a decree was signed by Prime Minister Dion Ngute.

Some of them have expressed their satisfaction with the compensation:
“We are satisfied first of all that the amount corresponds to what we are been owed and the SDO assured that appeals will be looked into after the payment must have been done so all those with appeals will have a favorable answer,” a beneficiary explained.

For the first phase, 130 persons were compensated and the administrators say the reason was because of the limited availability of funds.
However, the Senior Divisional Officer of the lekie division, Simo Patrick Kamso has assured that the situation will be looked into in the days ahead:
“We came out to pay the first phase and we worked on about 130 names. I am aware they are more than that, we already finished with those of Lobo and we are about to begin with those of Okola. We have informed those who are not happy that in the days ahead they will be fine”.

The project which was launched in 2019 and financed by the World Bank, will reinforce electricity flow in some areas in the Littoral and Center regions when completed.
