Turkey: Suicide Bombing in Ankara
Turkey has begun investigating a suicide bomb attack that took place in the country’s prominent Ankara city.
Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya confirmed that two Turkish police officers sustained non-life-threatening wounds in a suicide bombing that occurred near Turkey’s Ministry of Interior Relations in Ankara in the morning hours of Sunday, October 1, 2023.
Writing on X (formerly known as Twitter) the minister said two unknown attackers were responsible for the explosion.
According to Turkish authorities both the attackers are dead as one detonated himself and the other was killed.
The outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) claimed responsibility for the attack. President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has described the bombing as the “last flutters of terrorism” saying that those behind such attacks would “never succeed”.
