Tasong Calls for Renewed Support for Biya During CPDM Meeting in Wabane

The Minister Delegate to the Minister of Economy, Paul Tasong made the call for renewed support for President Paul Biya and the Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement (CPDM) during a strategic party meeting in Mmouck Leteh, Wabane Subdivision, on Oct. 17, 2026, as political mobilisation gathers momentum ahead of the upcoming legislative and municipal elections.
The meeting, chaired by Tasong in his capacity as head of the CPDM Permanent Divisional Delegation for Lebialem, brought together party supporters and residents who reaffirmed their backing for Biya and the ruling party.
According to a report published by Lebialem, Tasong outlined proposed development projects for the area, including electricity extensions and road rehabilitation, while urging party militants to maintain unity and strengthen the CPDM’s presence in Wabane.
Wabane Council Mayor Nembo Ketu Israel was featured in discussions surrounding the meeting, with the gathering providing an opportunity for supporters to express their backing for the party’s leadership and continued development initiatives in the subdivision. Mayor Nembo Ketu Israel is at the centre of emerging political tensions in the Lebialem Division ahead of the upcoming legislative and municipal elections. His team says he has absolute support from villagers who are rallying behind his development record.
The minister’s visit was accompanied by controversy after some traditional rulers reportedly displayed banners and attempted to obstruct the passage of Tasong and the senior divisional officer.
In statements issued on Oct. 20, the Wabane Fons Conference and the Wabane Chiefs’ Union distanced themselves from the actions, calling for peace, dialogue and respect for traditional institutions.
