Succession crisis in Dschang: DO bans coronation of second chief

A coronation ceremony to enthrone a second traditional ruler of Fotsetsa, a village in Dschang, Menoua Division, has been foiled by the Divisional Officer of Dschang, Mr Mbella Edjengeule Max.

The banned event, was intended to make a “Laakam” outing of a second king, Atongfack Paul II Daniel to replace an 8-year old ruler who was chosen after the passing unto glory of Fon Djouatsa II Jean Mariveau a year ago.

The 8-year old ruler, Atemkeng Nandjou Clement Miguel was chosen by kingmakers and approved by the administration as read in another decision from the DO on April 17, 2024.

In a decision taken on January 17, the Senior Administrative Officer says the planned ceremony from January 18-27, 2024, was not declared and has no authorization. He says the ceremony presents risks of public disorder and might lead to clashes between opposing factions given that many people are denouncing it.

Fotsetsa faces a succession crisis since the death of Fon Djouatsa II Jean Mariveau last year.
