AFCON 2023: Cameroon pulls off stunning comeback to secure round of 16 berth

The Indomitable Lions of Cameroon braved all odds to stun Gambia in a wild rollercoaster 3-2 ride that qualified them for the knockout stage of the 2023 African nations cup.

In a nail biting encounter staged at the Bouake Stadium, the Lions notched a bitter performance against Gambia who were also in need of a win.

After playing a virgin draw in the first 45 minutes, Cameroon opened scores through Karl Toko Ekambi who headed in Kevin Nkoudou’s cross in the 51st minute

Ablie Jallow pulled the trigger for Gambia, scoring an equalizer in the 76th minute to give Gambia their first goal in the 2023 AFCON before Embrima Colley scored to extend Gambia’s lead to 2-1.

In a dramatic turn of events, the Indomitable Lions got an equalizer resulting from a Gambian own goal, then came the winning goal from Christopher wooh to give Cameroon their first win of the competition.

With a win over Gambia and Senegal’s 2-0 win over Guinea, the Indomitable Lions have now qualified for the next round with 4 points and goal advantage over Guinea.
