Secondary education minister begs Teachers not to strike

Most teachers in Cameroon are said to have long complained of the poor working conditions, they go through including overcrowded classes, lack of teaching materials, and low salaries.

The Minister of Secondary Education, MINSEC, Dr. Nalova Lyonga has persuaded teachers not to strike but, to seek ways for peaceful resolution of their grievances.

She was speaking while presiding over the ceremony to commemorate the 39th edition of World Teacher’s Day under the theme “The teachers we need for the education we want: the global imperative to reverse the teacher shortage”.

Minister Nalova highlighted the need to valorize the teaching profession and reiterated the government’s efforts to improve the working conditions of teachers.

“There is no reason for them to be on strike. I am saying this because I have heard that some people want to go on strike or they are on strike. The person they are striking against has no problem with them”,” the minister stated.

The teachers’ union already declared on October 5, 2023, that they will be on strike for one week, beginning from Monday, October 9 till Friday, October 13, 2023.
