Restoration Council Impeach Ambazonia President Samuel Sako, Amid Suspension
By Wilson Musa
It was a turnaround on Wednesday night when the legislative arm of the Ambazonia Interim Government, known as the Restoration Council, RC, led by Elvis Kometa, passed a vote to impeach the Interim Government’s President, Dr. Samuel Sako, the former Communication Secretary, Christopher Anu, read on his newly created channel, ABS television.
The event on February 2, 2022, came a few hours after the President, Dr. Samuel Sako had made a Presidential Executive Order, rendering null and void any decision from the 28-man chamber of the Restoration Council.
Chris Anu who fell out in October 2021 with his former boss, Samuel Sako Ikome, read many charges levied against the latter, ranging from mismanagement, interference in investigations, attempts to dissolve the RC, alleged embezzlement among others.
According to a statement read by Chris Anu, 22 out of 28 members of the Restoration Council voted to impeach Dr. Sako, while 4 members including the Secretary-General staged a walkout.
Some 23 members of the RC also passed an order freezing the account of the National Treasury.
Two Impachements in 3 Years
The Interim Government of Ambazonia, a body set aside by some Southern Cameroonians, as the governing platform in their quest for independence has suffered from two impeachments. In May 2019, the same Restoration Council voted to impeach the pioneer President and detainee, Sisiki Julius Ayuktabe, citing compromise. Dr. Sako was installed as Acting Interim President but the title would later change to Interim President in November the same year with a two-year mandate. Sisiku on his part had dismissed Dr. Samuel Sako. With both men refusing to quit, there exist two Interim Governments, but that of Sisiku is known as Interim Government Care.
Suspension of Restoration Council
A few hours to his impeachment, Dr. Samuel Sako signed an Executive Order, suspending meetings of Local Government Area’s at the Restoration Council for lack of quorum. The Order also stated that any acts, proceedings, or decisions taken by the Council “will not be binding on the Interim Government or the People of Ambazonia”
On ABC Amba Tv, a platform loyal to Samuel Sako, the Chairman of the Restoration Council’s Judicial Committee, Barrister Timothy Mbehesa, and others said the impeachment was “rubbish”.
Chris Anu announced that the Amba People Plan, APP, has been convened by dismissed Vice President, Abongwa for Thursday to elect a new President. This could be the third Interim Government loading.
