CEMAC Parliament Opens With Challenges of COVID-19

I know the damages and stress COVID-19 has caused the Cameroonian population and my dearest wish is to s see that this pandemic comes to an end, senior deputy speaker of the National Assembly told members during an opening ceremony of CEMAC parliament.

The video conference of an opening ceremony of CEMAC Parliament took place on February 7, 2022, in Yaoundé.

Deliberations of the opening ceremony were chaired by Hon. Hilarion ETONG, Senior Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly of Cameroun, current President of the CEMAC Parliament.

He was accompanied by some Cameroonian Parliamentarians notably: Hon. ALIOUM FADIL, Hon. HAMAN TCHIOUTO and Hon. ATEAWUNG FOJU Bernard.

Visible on the screen, were the Chairman of the Committee of the Economic and Monetary Community of Central Africa and some CEMAC   Parliamentarians.

Before declaring the session open, Hon. Hilarion ETONG extended his best wishes for the year 2022 to the Chairman of the committee, his fellow Members of Parliament, and the collaborators present. He pointed out the damages caused by COVID-19 and stressed that it was his dearest wish that this pandemic comes to an end.

The elected Representative of Upper Sanaga reminded his colleagues that the CEMAC Parliament is not visible internationally due to certain diplomatic problems caused by lack of funding.

He informed Members of the CEMAC Community of the appointment of Mr. TOUNGOU ALEMBE Gervais Leopold, of the Central African Republic, a change at the head of the institution’s General Secretariat for a 5-year term by the Cameroonian Head of State, Paul BIYA, current President of the Conference of Heads of States, following Decision No. 09/21-CEMAC-Parliament -CCE signed on 18 December 2021.

He further revealed during his opening speech that throughout the examination of the issues that will be on the agenda of this session, their objective will be to deliberate in order to meet the expectations of the populations that these MPs represent.

Following the African and local sports news, the Senior Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly of Cameroon expressed his congratulations to the Senegalese National team, winners of the 2021 AFCON Total Energies. He particularly saluted the participation of the teams of the member states of the CEMAC Community namely Gabon, Equatorial Guinea, and Cameroon.

On behalf of CEMAC Parliamentarians, he congratulated the Republic of Cameroon for the perfect organization, hospitality, and generosity she offered for the smooth running of the competition.
