Presidency reprimands Atanga Nji on online gaming revenue monitoring
The Minister of Territorial Administration, MINAT, Paul Atanga Nji was issued instructions to redirect his intervention on online gaming according to existing laws. The Minister of State, Secretary General at the Presidency (SGPR), Ferdinand Ngoh Ngoh called MINAT to order in a letter dated February 6.
The letter which CNA has seen, has subject; “Implementation of a centralisation and monitoring system for online gaming at MINAT.” In it, the SGPR schooled Minister Atanga Nji on the role of MINAT as regards online gaming.
Referencing an earlier MINAT correspondence, Ngoh Ngoh reminded Atanga Nji of a presidential order of 15 July 2024 rendering under the Ministry of Finance, “platforms for the automatic capture of the turnover of companies in the digital economy, including those involved in gambling and games of chance”.
He further cited the provisions of article 38 of the decree of 23 January 2019 organising MINAT. Wherein, “MINAT’s competence in the field of gaming is limited to controlling and monitoring the application of laws and regulations in this area.”
On this note, Atanga Nji’s instructions for MINAT monitoring of the revenues of online gaming platforms were called off.
He was advised to only make sure that those practicing respct the laws but anyhting concerning finance and operationalisation is within the competence of the ministry of finance.
