Fokou Andelys Divisional Officer (D.O.) for Bafut sub-division in the Mezam division of the North West region of Cameroon has urged councilors to work in synergy with security forces for peace to return to Bafut:

“2022 has been a calm year in Bafut… We have all seen the havoc caused by recalcitrant children. Sensitization campaigns should intensify so that there shouldn’t be any bloodshed in our area in 2023”.

Chairing the Bafut 2023 budgetary session on December 7 2022, the D.O. also announced the establishment of a cartography of risk zones in the district to enable administrators avert any environmental hazard:

While regretting that Bafut council sessions now take place at the Bamenda I council hall, the D.O. urged councilors to set the pace by holding 2023 council sessions in Bafut so as to show the people they are for peace and thus, better develop the municipality.

The mayor on his part, affirmed the recommendation will be looked into and also announced ongoing works at the Bafut sand depot to boost income generating activities “The sand pit in Bafut is one of the income generating sources for the council. As at now, the road leading to the sand deposit site is being arranged. A council fee will be instituted by council officials and payable by all sand truck drivers for maintenance and we urge people from Bafut and beyond to come in and get good quality sand,” Lawrence Ngwakongoh, Mayor of Bafut said.
