Oku: Brigade commander accused of ‘ransom’ arrests

The people of Oku, a Fondom in the Bui Division, North West region, have lamented constant arrests and requests for money from the Brigade commander of Oku, someone who has knowledge of the incidents told CNA.

Sources added that Joh Bolivar Idjandja, organized ransom arrests in 12 out of the 36 villages in Oku, “arresting more than 50 individuals per village and demanding between 500,000frs to 2,000 000frs per person before their release., someone who begged not to be named confirmed the information.

He’s intimidating these individuals saying if the money is not given, he’s going to send them to Bamenda as Amba supporters.

Ambazonia fighters are currently fighting a war of independence against government forces and such incidents have been occurring in other towns and villages.

“These people he’s using as his farm to collect these huge sums of money from are the same people running away from the ambas. Truth is, Oku is gradually returning back to normalcy and this behavior from the brigade commander of OKU is making OKU unstable as many people are considering running away from Oku. We’ve had enough and the brigade commander should be stopped as he will soon collect money that might take away his life.” The source added.
