NWSW Regions: OCHA X-rays Effects of 15 Days Lockdown
The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has detailed the devastating effects of the ban on movement and activities in the North West and South West regions, revealing that most schools have been closed except for a few schools in Urban areas and operating at less than 60% compared to the first week,
In a detailed report released on September 28, 2021, OCHA said the call by one of the Non-State Armed Groups on September 15, 2021, has caused about 200, 000 people to miss food assistance due to interruption.
The closure of banks and markets operating at a limited capacity have aggravated food insecurity increased commodity prices, and have an adverse impact on socio-economic activities. Health Cluster partners operating in hard-to-reach or conflict-affected areas have not been able to operate mobile clinics or provide life-saving assistance.
There has also been an increase in violence, kidnappings, and attacks against people defying the lockdown including bike riders, students, and teachers. OCHA and humanitarian partners have made a clarion call to all parties in the conflict to grant humanitarian access so that they can meet the needs of the population.
