NWR: MINAT suspends sales of Motorbikes for 48h

The Minister of Territorial Administration, Paul Atanga Nji, has ordered a 48-hour suspension of motorbike sales in Cameroon’s North West Region as authorities begin an inventory of motorcycles currently held in shops.
The measure was announced during a meeting with about 380 motorbike riders in Bamenda as part of the minister’s working visit to the region.
According to the minister, the temporary suspension will allow administrative authorities to establish an inventory of existing motorbike stocks as part of measures to strengthen regulation and identification within the sector.
Under the new measures, the sale of every motorbike must henceforth be accompanied by the issuance of a number plate, with vendors expected to facilitate the process. Motorbike riders will also be required to undergo proper identification.
The minister further announced that motorbike riders will be prohibited from carrying more than one passenger.
During the meeting, Atanga Nji provided fuel to the riders and pledged to cover identification costs for the first 100 riders.
The measures come amid renewed efforts by administrative authorities to improve the regulation, identification and monitoring of the motorbike transport sector in the North West Region.
