WAFCON 2024: Banyana Banyana, Botswana qualified

South Africa’s Banyana Banyana secured a spot in the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations with a 2-0 victory over Burkina Faso.

The match at the Lucas Moripe Stadium had a tough start, with the first half ending nil-nil.

In the second segment, Linda Motlhalo scored from the spot for Banyana Banyana. The hosts maintained and doubled the lead through Nicole Michael who scored her first goal for the national team.

Banyana Banyana will next compete in February 2024 to continue their Olympic qualification journey.

Elsewhere, Kenya’s Harambee Starlets failed to reach the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) final after losing 2-1 on aggregate against Botswana.

The first leg meeting at the Nyayo Stadium, ended 1-1, after which Botswana grabbed a 1-0 home victory over Kenya to book their place in the finals of the tournament to be staged in Morocco.
